The Goa Association of the Deaf is the only organisation working for the upliftment of the deaf population in the State of Goa. The association is the key stakeholder representing sign language users residing in the state of Goa. Set up in 2010, it has now completed 12 years of existence. Eleven board members manage the affairs of the association. The association conducts regular meetings and programs towards empowering the deaf population of the Goa. The association has been lobbying with the government and other institutions to provide an accessible environment for the deaf. In this endeavour, GAD aims to set up a MULTIPURPOSE TRAINING CENTRE in Goa to offer various courses and training programs.
Our aim is to ensure that the deaf community be provided with accessibility to different kind of knowledge content so that they live their lives independently with dignity by overcoming different challenges and barriers with the correct mindset and skills. And also enjoy equal Rights as that of the hearing community with regard to different opportunities in social, political, educational, recreational activities.
Our goal is to show and provide awareness of the different positive possibilities for deaf people to engage in to make a living using thier skills and talents so that they too become a productive resource in the society.
We want to make sure that the political and governments sectors recognize our struggle and our needs for accessibility with regard to Driving License in our daily life which is still a hassle for thousands of deaf people who cannot issue DL due to thier deafness even though they display good driving and riding skills. This has a tremendous impact on their daily life when it comes to transportation for work purpose or family emergencies.
We believe that Sign Language is the major key for accessibility to the deaf community in communication issues.
GAD advocates that the deaf schools engage qualified deaf instructors to teach deaf students for better teaching and learning experience to give full accessibility through Indian sign language for gaining appropriate education which will lay a proper foundation for their bright and successful future.
Lack of appropriate education policies and methods adopted in different deaf schools has badly hampered many deaf and has added a lot of suffering and misery to their already struggling life.
GAD requests you for your support and cooperation to help provide us to build up a deaf community that has full accessibility in the society in which they live so that no barrier can block their journey of living an independent and content life with dignity.
